Things you will need to get started:
- Boiling water (preferably filtered water)
- Glass or ceramic teapot or cup
- Infuser of choice or fine mesh strainer
- Good quality loose-leaf organic herbal tea of choice
- Sweetener of choice (if desired)
Gather all your items together.
Preheat the teapot or cup (I do this by filling the container with very hot tap water and letting it stand for a few minutes). This will prevent the brewing water from cooling too much as might happen if you poured it into a cold teapot or cup. It is important to keep the brewing water close to 200 degrees.
Add 1 tsp – 1 tbsp (for each 8 oz of water) of loose herbs to the infuser (or pour hot water out of a teapot or cup if you are not using an infuser and add the loose herbs directly to the pot or cup). I prefer using an infuser because it is less messy.
Bring the water to a boil and pour over the loose herbs in the cup or teapot.
Let the tea steep for 3-5 minutes (depending on the herb and your taste).
Remove the infuser (if using one) or strain tea through a fine mesh strainer.
Sweeten with a sweetener of choice (honey or raw sugar are good choices) if desired.
Relax and enjoy a perfect cup of herbal tea.
